The Brief


CEDIA, the globally recognised association for smart home professionals, approached us with a clear and exciting brief: to create a pair of engaging, membership animation videos for their website and social platforms. These videos would introduce a new set of membership tiers while encouraging more professionals to join the CEDIA community. With over 30,000 members across 80+ countries, CEDIA plays a leading role in education, advocacy, and innovation in the smart home industry. The content needed to reflect this leadership while remaining warm, approachable, and easy to digest.
Together, we decided on a character-led animation style with a bright, welcoming tone. Although CEDIA is rooted in smart home technology, the creative approach steered away from anything overly sleek or clinical. Instead, we focused on creating something colourful and personable—designed to feel inviting for first-time viewers and reflective of the human side of the industry.

Our Response


We created two distinct CEDIA membership animation videos. The first explains the updated membership tiers, outlining who each one is for and what benefits they offer. The second takes a step back to highlight the broader mission of the organisation, showcasing the community, values, and support that CEDIA provides its members worldwide.

Visually, CEDIA’s membership animation videos are grounded in existing brand palette but enhanced with warmer tones and characterful touches. Rather than leaning into the standard tech world aesthetic of cool blues and sharp lines, we embraced a look that felt rich, approachable, and vibrant. The colour choices, paired with the lively animation style, helped us strike the right balance between professional and friendly.

The story is carried by three original characters, each representing a different smart home professional. These characters guide the viewer through the content, adding both clarity and relatability to the information. The characters were designed with simplicity and warmth in mind—professionals who feel approachable and grounded, helping the viewer quickly connect with the story and absorb the information with ease.

To bring a sense of cohesion and lightness to the visual storytelling, we included a motif of twinkling stars throughout. These elements add a gentle touch of whimsy while also nodding to innovation and possibility.

Both videos are structured to be informative yet dynamic, with a carefully paced rhythm that keeps viewers engaged from start to finish. They’ve already proven to be valuable assets across CEDIA’s outreach and onboarding efforts—helping to demystify the membership structure and spark interest in the wider community.

These animations have become a key part of how CEDIA introduces its mission and membership to the world—delivering clear, visually compelling content that speaks directly to the professionals shaping the future of smart home technology.
